Group and Private Lessons
We are an English facility with a focus on safety and all round horsemanship. We have a wide variety of students both in age and experience. Our desire is to provide a friendly barn where everyone feels welcome and able to participate and learn.
Our lessons are based on a one hour supervised time period. They include the care, grooming and tacking up of the horse. All students begin with an INTRODUCTORY PACKAGE of 3 PRIVATE lessons, to be evaluated and also to know where things are and what is expected.
Once the students know our system and we feel they are safe handling the horses, we expect that they will come and get their horse ready (with continued supervision as needed). Then the riding portion of the lesson will be approximately an hour, followed by students caring for their horse, (grooming, putting tack away, cleaning tack, cleaning the horse’s pen, or such.) This usually means the students are eventually here for about two hours.
After the INTRODUCTORY PACKAGE has been completed, students choose whether to continue in PRIVATE lessons or join an appropriate GROUP.
The GROUP lessons are riding for an hour (with horse and barn care before and after), in a typical group of 3 to 5 riders of similar experience. Those committed to a year round program, ride in the group lessons for a discounted rate which provides 4 lessons per month on an appointed day of the week. We work at the knowledge level of each group on dressage, jumping, riding in the open and fun stuff such as games. We also offer 3 student shows per year in jumping, combined dressage and jumping, and games for those in our regular program. See the photos to see how much they are enjoyed.
For the younger kids (approx. 6/7 but some are older) we have the SHORT BOOTS program. This is a once a month lesson which is has proved very popular with both children and parents. There is less burnout and when the children are mature enough (generally around 8) they graduate to the normal weekly group lesson program. Children under 8 may take PRIVATE lessons or if another student of the same age is available and willing, they may take SEMI-PRIVATE lessons.
Also available:
- Semi-private – a group of two that the students arrange.
- Lunge – a 30 minute private lesson on the lunge line to improve rider position and confidence.
- Horse Management – a one hour class once a month on a horse care topic.
